
The Education Fund Efling and public payers is for those who work in the public labour market, at Reykjavik City, other municipalities and the state together with other parties with whom Efling makes collective agreements and takes into account the collective agreements of the aforementioned parties, such as nursing homes, independent kindergartens and Faxaflóahafnir.
Maximum grant for members who contribute to the Education Fund Efling and public payers is 150,000 kr.* per year.
- The grant can be used for leisure activities, studies or trips within the country or abroad.
- The grant is in the form of reimbursement and the member must have incurred the expense before applying.
- The maximum grant is based on full-time work and decreases proportionally to the work ratio.
- Paid up to 100% of the cost.
- Members must have paid for training / travel while they paid to Efling and invoices not older than 12 months.
Accumulated rights for those who have not used the right in:
- 2 years are 300,000 kr.
- 3 years are 450,000 ISK.
It is possible to use accumulated rights in one continuous study.
Union members have 3 months to submit an application after they stop paying into the union and have been paid for education/course that started while the applicant was contributing to the union.
Maximum grant is 150,000 ISK per year*

Considered as work-related training:
- Education in secondary school and material costs which are an inseparable part of the education.
- University study.
- Study with recognized training providers that are useful for work.
- Citizenship test.
- Examination fees together with material costs which are an inseparable part of the exam.
- Driving test and additional driving rights (theoretical, practical, the test).
- Self‑funding.
- Language learning.
The application must be accompanied by the original invoice where the name and kennitala member appear. If confirmation of payment on the invoice is not provided, additional confirmation of payment must be submitted, e.g., from a home bank or payment receipt from the invoice issuer.
Members who are registered with the Labour Market Agency must also submit confirmation of the grant amount from the agency with the application, regardless of whether they received the grant or not.
Training must always be paid for by the member.
Study abroad
Due to an application for a grant for studies or a course taken abroad, it is necessary to submit the original invoice in the original language and in English, confirmation of payment from the home bank, and the cost allocation must also be itemised.

Travel costs for study trips within the country

- Travel expenses for work-related study travel within the country.
- Only flight and accommodation are paid for.
- The grant is awarded every 2 years.
No payment is made for the cost of the agenda for individuals, the institution itself applies for reimbursement of it and members can apply for travel grant for work-related training trips when the institution has received its application for the same trip approved by Efling (due to the training).
NOTE! Very important is that before individuals apply for travel costs due to work-related educational journey, the institution has applied for a grant due to course costs.

Travel costs for study trips abroad

- Travel costs of work-related study trips abroad.
- Only flight and accommodation are paid for.

Leisure time allowance
50.000,-*
Part-time study includes study that does not fall under job-related study or courses.
The application must be accompanied by an original invoice showing the member's name and social security number. If there is no confirmation of payment on the invoice, additional confirmation of payment must be submitted, for example from a bank account or a payment receipt from the invoice issuer.
Members who are registered with the Directorate of Labour must also submit confirmation of the grant amount from the agency with their application, regardless of whether they received a grant or not.
Courses must be paid for by the member.
Study abroad
If a course or program does not meet the requirements for General and Work-Related Studies, it may be classified as a leisure grant. If it was taken on a foreign website, it must be paid for from an Icelandic online bank account.
When applying for a grant for studies or courses taken abroad, an original invoice in the original language and in English must be submitted, as must confirmation of payment from an Icelandic home bank, and an itemized breakdown of costs must also be provided.

Health promotion - fitness training
Health promotion grants include physical education, sports, swimming, dance, etc. The grant can be used to purchase a bicycle.
The station, school or club must be a legal entity (ID number and permanent address) with permanent facilities and organized work and must employ approved physical education teachers or instructors.
Up to 23,000 ISK is paid every 12 months, up to a maximum of 50% of the cost.
The application must be accompanied by an original invoice showing the member's name and social security number. If there is no confirmation of payment on the invoice, additional confirmation of payment must be submitted, for example from a bank statement or a payment receipt from the invoice issuer.
