The first Efling þing was held on February 26–27
Efling union is holding its first Efling Congress on February 26th and 27th in Austurbæjarbíó. The congress is a new and powerful platform where members come together to shape policy and strengthen the fight for improved conditions and rights for workers.
Over 200 Efling members, from over 30 different countries of origin, participate in the congress. They reflect the diverse group of workers that Efling employs, and play a key role in shaping the company's shared vision and demands.
The goal of the congress is to strengthen Efling voice, deepen discussion on pressing issues of interest, and increase the activity of members in the organization's work. The congress's resolutions will set a clear direction for Efling campaigning in the coming months, based on the work of the Board of Trustees and the experience of members in the labor market.
The program spans two days and consists of lectures, discussions and working sessions where members of parliament work systematically on proposals and resolutions. Sólveig Anna Jónsdóttir, chairwoman Efling , will deliver an opening address.
Speakers include Ragnar Þór Ingólfsson, Minister of Social Affairs and Housing, and Jónas Atli Gunnarsson, Chief Economist at the Icelandic Housing and Public Works Agency. There will also be foreign guests who discuss the struggles of workers internationally, including Lars Christian Fjeldstad from the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO) and Anna Bacia, Chair of the Care Workers' Union in Poland.
